Want the no makeup makeup look? Look no further!
Despite reading so many rave reviews on this foundation, I don't know why it took me this long to pick up NARS Sheer Glow Foundation.
NARS Sheer Glow Foundation has a deceptive name - it is not so 'sheer', it leaves light to medium buildable coverage. It is not that 'glowing' either, in the sense that it lacks sparkles that Revlon Photoready Foundation was notorious for.
But what it does though -- it leaves a matte finish that looks very natural on the skin while covering minor imperfections. It is not dewy at all which is great for me as I prefer the non-dewy non-oily look.
As with most foundations, this can settle on dry skin and make them look more prominent especially up close. I suggest exfoliating and moisturising your face well before applying the foundation to minimise any dry patches.
This foundation is perfect for flash photography
This product does not come with SPF, which makes it perfect for flash photography. SPF tends to give faces a white cast with flash. For daytime use, I suggest using a sunscreen or a moisturiser with SPF for some anti-aging UV protection. I currently use La Roche-Posay Rosaliac UV Anti-Redness Moisturizer that also works well to even out redness on my cheeks.
The foundation comes without a pump
The foundation itself comes with a pump bought separately, and using it without the pump can make it a bit messy to use. To use the pump-less foundation, I pour a little amount, perhaps a 5p coin sized dollop on the back of my left hand (I am a righty) and take my foundation brush, dip and apply it on my face. I pour more foundation on my palette hand as required. I have found this works well for me and preventing the mess!
For longer wear, use a face primer and set with blot powder
I have found the lasting power on its own to be sub par as by the 6th hour I tend to find patchiness. Using a good face primer and setting it with a blotting powder such as MAC Blot Powder definitely helps to prolong its wear to about 10-12 hours (on my on call shifts!). As far as primers are concerned, I currently love Maybelline Baby Skin Primer.
It is paraben-free!
It is free of nasty Parabens, Benzoate and Aluminin which are known chemicals that can be harsh on the skin.
It has an excellent shade range
It has an excellent range of shades and it is particularly good for olive skintones with yellow undertones, which can be difficult to match with many brands that have colours that look too pink or too orange. I find that like MAC Face & Body Foundation, the thin runny consistency lets it easily blend with the skin.
I use the shade in Punjab that perfectly matches my NC30 skin. To find a good foundation match for my skin colour, I used Temptalia's Foundation Matrix that is an extremely useful resource for when buying foundations online.
Here's a glowy makeup look wearing NARS Sheer Glow foundation.
That concludes my lengthy review of NARS Sheer Glow Foundation. If you have any questions, feel free to leave comment below!
