Over the last year liquid lipsticks have taken the beauty world by storm and transformed matte lipsticks altogether. In the search for the perfect wearable nude lip (not the concealer lips variety), I've picked up a few from different brands and I wanted to share my thoughts with you on the different formulas. My lips are naturally a pink toned so you would find some of these 'nude' shades are pink-toned too. Note though that there is quality variability between colours of a certain make but these reviews are my thoughts on these particular lippies.

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream (Stockholm). If you want a smooth comfortable matte lip cream on a drugstore budget and don't mind reapplying every so often - this one is for you. This brand started the matte lip cream trend, years before it actually took off. They come in several shades and are easily available worldwide. NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams have a comfortable soft mousse-like texture and smell of sweet vanilla cake. The formula takes a few minutes to dry, rubs off quite easily, and doesn't last long. Stockholm itself is a pale peachy pink that looks good on my NC30 skin.

MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour (Back In Vogue). If you are a MAC-aholic and love to 'collect them all' and are patient enough to exfoliate and moisturise your lips beforehand - this one is for you. This range dries fast and lasts long on the lips. They stay put! However they are quite drying and give that pruney shrink-wrap look and feel to the lips. I make sure to exfoliate and apply a generous layer of lip balm before applying this. The darker shades are generally wonderful and are more forgiving to imperfections than paler ones. Back In Vogue itself is a bright light coral that leans more to the unforgiving side.

Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor (Seduction). If you are usually into balms and lip glosses and are new to the matte lip - you will probably like this one (its not matte and feels very comfortable). This liquid lipstick is a misnomer as it does not dry down to a matte at all, rather it remains smooth and creamy, almost gloss-like. It smells like caramel and it is very comfortable to wear. This is something I like to wear in the summer. It rubs off easily and doesn't last long. The darker shades apply more streaky but Seduction is just perfect. It is a nude with a hint of peach.

Sleek Makeup Matte Me Lip Cream (Birthday Suit)*. If you want a matte liquid lipstick with a drugstore budget - this one is for you! I think this is one of the best drugstore liquid lipstick lines out there. It dries fast to a matte texture and feels almost weightless! It lasts long on the lips and stays put. Like most liquid lipsticks however, you need to exfoliate and moisturise. Birthday Suit looks peachy in the tube but dries to a nude pink that's my perfect MLBB shade. I would apply a thin layer to avoid it feeling like cement when it dries on the lips.

Colourpop Ultra Matte Liquid Lipstick (Beeper). If you are an expert at liquid lipsticks and want your lipstick to last through the whole day - this one is for you. This liquid lipstick takes the longest to dry of all of them, but once it sets it stays put and hardly smudges (it even stains). It applies with a thin runny texture. I find it could be the least comfortable of them as it is quite drying, settles in lip lines and can make the lips flake, even with exfoliating and a standard layer of lip balm. Beeper looks like a peachy nude in the tube but it dries to a much darker brown with a hint of pink. I prefer applying lip balm over this too to make the lips feel more comfortable. It's definitely not my favourite of the bunch.

NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream (Stockholm), MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour (Back In Vogue), Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor (Seduction), Sleek Makeup Matte Me Lip Gloss (Birthday Suit), Colourpop Ultra Matte Liquid Lipstick (Beeper), Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick (Dusty Rose), Sephora Cream Lip Stain (#13 Marvellous Mauve), NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick (Soft Spoken), Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick (Lolita) Swatches
NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream (Stockholm), MAC Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour (Back In Vogue), Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lipcolor (Seduction), Sleek Makeup Matte Me Lip Cream (Birthday Suit), Colourpop Ultra Matte Liquid Lipstick (Beeper), Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick (Dusty Rose), Sephora Cream Lip Stain (#13 Marvellous Mauve), NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick (Soft Spoken), Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick (Lolita) Swatches

Anastasia Beverly Hills Liquid Lipstick (Dusty Rose). If you love ABH and are looking for a moderately comfortable-to-wear liquid lipstick - this one is for you. This formula generally applies evenly and smoothly. It takes a few minutes to dry. Once dried down, it doesn't stick as long as Colourpop's and may transfer if rubbed. The colour is almost true to its shade in the tube. It is a medium toned mauve with a smidgen of brown. I love this colour.

Sephora Cream Lip Stain (#13 Marvelous Mauve). If you love the comfortable NYX Matte Lip Creams but want something that actually dries matte and gives you a cushiony feel - this one is for you. This formula feels a little like the NYX Matte Lip Creams with a soft mousse formula, but after a few minutes it dries to an opaque matte finish. It does transfer a little bit if rubbed, but the comfort makes up for it. Marvelous Mauve is a beautiful mauve pink that brings me compliments (even from strangers). That's saying something!

NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick (Soft Spoken). If you like the NYX Matte Lip Creams but are looking for other shades of a similar formula - this one is for you. This formula feels velvety on the lips and does not dry down completely - similar to the NYX Matte Lip Creams above. It smudges off fairly easily. It's very comfortable on the lips and it is something I can use at work. Soft spoken is a red-toned nude.

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick (Lolita). If you like the ABH liquid lipsticks but want a formula that lasts a bit longer - this one is for you. This formula dries pretty fast, lasts long on the lips and hardly smudges. This is what you would expect from a "matte liquid lipstick". It can accentuate dry patches and lip lines. It dries out the lips so make sure to use lip balm beforehand. Lolita is a deep mauve with pink tones on my skin.

So which is the best?
It's hard to pick out favourites as there is a lipstick formula for every person and occasion, but I suppose the ones I reach out the most for are Sleek Makeup's Matte Me Lip Cream (for everyday work-safe wear), Sephora Cream Lip Stain (for days when I want a little pick me up) and Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick (for casual weekends).

It's taken a while to compile this post so I hope this has been useful.

Have you tried liquid lipsticks and which is your favourite brand?

The Best Liquid Lipstick Formula?

Revlon All In One Mascara Review
Revlon All In One Mascara Review

I'm rather picky when it comes to mascaras. My slightly tubby Oriental eyelids don't give me enough flexibility in terms of what mascara I use, and I often find to have coated my lids along with my lashes on application. I've found best results with short bristled mascara wands hence Loreal Telescopic Mascara has been a sure fave for sometime.

Revlon has recently launched their Revlon All In One Mascara which claims to be an all rounder. Watching Michelle Keegan's advert on it, which is obviously pre-prepared and not off the cuff, I must admit I was a little bit intrigued and decided to go for a lil shop.

The Revlon All In One Mascara has miniature bristles with also a miniature length. Its about the size of a small cardamom pod. Its rounded shape curls the lashes while the formula lengthens with mini fibres. Its small size allows you to coat the extreme ends of your lash lines, which you don't often get to do with the larger wands.

It's layerable and I tend to give myself 2-3 coats for my desired effect - thick, lengthy, very black lashes.

Because of the smaller wand, it does take longer to apply a full coat, but I'm willing to forego that for better precision.

The formula is gorgeous. No flaking or smudging, and it does seem to hold a curl well.

For a top tip on using this: prior to brushing on the lashes, inspect the brush for bits of stray fibres or lashes. Gently remove these as they can poke you in the eye.

I'm sad to let Loreal Telescopic Mascara go from my fave mascara spot, but I'm super glad to have found a new fave in Revlon All In One Mascara. I would definitely recommend to all, especially for ladies with hooded / tubby eyelids.

Revlon Seduction Ultra HD Matte Lip Color Review Swatches
Revlon Seduction Ultra HD Matte Lip Color Review Swatches

Revlon has finally made its contribution to the matte liquid lipstick trend. Swatching these Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lip Colors at Boots, I was drawn to Seduction, a matte peachy nude. It looks so beautiful in its sleek slick packaging. I just had to have it!

The formula reminds me of the NYX Matte Lip Creams (check out a recent haul HERE) in that these are nondrying and feel velvety on the lips. There's a short-lived minty tingly sensation on application but otherwise it is tasteless and odourless *thumbs up!*. The doe foot applicator provides the perfect amount of product and avoids wastage.

The shade itself is b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l. A nude peachy pink that does not wash me out. Its a very flattering shade that is easy to wear day or night, and I'm sure it also would look good on a variety of skintones. More pigmented lips could do with a matching lip pencil underneath.

I've compared it to some of my favourite nudes. It is similar to Charlotte Tilbury Bitch Perfect Lipstick, and it is considerably more peachy than MAC Fanfare Lipstick and MAC Cosmo Lipstick.

Overall I am very impressed by this offering from Revlon. It is available in Boots and Superdrug. Have you tried the Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lip Colors?

Revlon Seduction Ultra HD Matte Lip Color

Hot pink has always been my favorite color. I grew up in the non-technological world of Barbie and Kelly,
the latter now known as Chelsea *gasp*, which influenced my love and fascination for all things pink. It is no secret that Shocking/Hot Pinks and Magentas are hard to pull off. No matter how attractive they are, there are a lot of issues I encounter when trying on pink lipstick. Some make my teeth look yellow, some are too shocking they could pop an eye out, and some just do not compliment my NC35-40 skin tone at all. So here's a list of Hot Pinks that I have acquired over time and my thoughts on them:

(L-R)
Long-wear and extremely creamy. Color is cool-toned and more on the purple side than pink. It did not suit my skin tone at all and it was the kind that made my teeth look yellow. It also left stains on my lips and fingers.

Not a huge lip gloss user, but this color is definitely wearable either on top of lipstick or on it's own.

Beauty bloggers all over the internet have been raving about this one, and I completely agree with them. Candy Yum Yum is very versatile as it looks good on almost all skin tones. It is highly pigmented and dries on matte. If you were to own one barbie pink lipstick, I would recommend this one.

MAC Candy Yum Yum

Part of the limited edition DressCamp Collection (2008). It has a Lustre finish - very sheer when applied but can be built up to a nice, flattering baby pink. Looks good on almost all skin tones.

If you do not wish to spend on Candy Yum Yum, Addis Ababa is another lippie that I highly recommend. It is probably one of the colors I have used the most in my beloved matte lip cream collection. Though the product can look intimidating at first, it is actually very wearable, even for us sun-kissed ladies. It dries on matte and leaves you with dolly pink lips.

NYX Addis Ababa

Huge fan of the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable lip stains. This did not disappoint in texture as it applied smoothly. Very sheer, you have to put layers upon layers to actually get to a solid color. Yet the color did not go well with my skin, and also left my teeth looking yellow.

I got this out of a whim, really. I wanted to try some lip art that required a shocking baby pink color and did not want to spend a lot. Naturally, I would go to the Wet n Wild section because their products are really inexpensive, but they are not at all tacky. The formula of this lipstick was too matte/dry for me. It would leave my lips flaky. I suggest you exfoliate and hydrate your lips before applying this one.

Sleek Makeup Amped Lipstick - 4/5
I love Sleek's True Color Lipstick collection. Amped was my IT Pink Lipstick before having Candy Yum Yum, and can very well be a dupe for the latter. I found that it does not apply smoothly, but you sure end up with a beautiful pop of color on your lips. Though, you have to be daring enough to wear such an electric pink. Dries on matte.

Sleek Makeup Mauve Over Pout Paint - 2.5/5
The pout paints are just about the funnest lip products in my collection. You can pretty much make your own shades by mixing different colors together. This is one I would not wear by itself. It's a cool-toned color, similar to MAC Magenta, so my issues with it are the same. It also has a tendency to give you teeth stains. Liquid, Highly pigmented, Very thick lather.

Sleek Makeup Monte Carlo Pout Polish - 3/5
Sleek's pout polishes are nourishing and conditioning. I love how they feel on my lips. This color is very sheer, but I would not advise building it up. It will give you a nice subtle pink and leave your lips looking juicy!

What's your favorite pink lipstick?

Our Picks: Hot Pink - Magenta Lip Products

Love is in the air as Valentine's Day is just around the corner. Instead of the usual pinks and reds, I'm opting for a more toned down look, inspired by the thing I love most about Valentine's - chocolate.

Valentines Day Look: Chocolate Fondue

Kylie Jenner's make up look was hailed the most sought-after of 2014. The beauty community went crazy and came up with a lot of brilliant tutorials on how to get the look. So here's me joining the bandwagon and doing my own take on the look, modelled by my best friend (and favourite make up canvas), Dionna.

Kylie Jenner Makeup Tutorial

Ever notice how bright nail polishes make your skin look a shade (or two) darker?

You can use this tactic to your advantage in the summer to give your tan a boost. Here are my picks for tan maximising shades that are still quite wearable and not to mention girly. Perfect for the warm season!

Gimmicks like scented nail perfumes always get me. I don’t know why but its that thought of being able to catch subtle whiffs of my nails as I bring them close to my face like applying makeup for example brings me a little bit of happiness. Mind you, I am easily pleased I have been frequently told... Revlon has launched a fantastic line of scented nail enamels that just have me completely sold.

How to Get Nails that Look Good and Smell Good Too!

This week my face has been sporting peach: peach cheeks, peach lips, peach highlighter. This colour is quite versatile for work and play and works well with the rising temperatures... but in truth I was really feeling a little girly this week and this just did the trick!

Dear everyone, we are going global! I am very excited to introduce you to a new USA-based beauty writer on The Skin and Beauty Blog. Her name is Shannon. You may have seen her initial guest post on What's In Her Make Up Bag and from now on you'll be seeing her posts more frequently. She is based in sunny California, a young and creative mind brimmed full of ideas. A New Writer on the Block!

Revlon Matte Balm in Audacious

Having loved the original Revlon Balm Stains and also a fan of mattes, I picked up a few colours of the Revlon Matte Balms. The formula is very creamy and glides on very well. Because its a matte, it can be a bit drying so you should make sure you prep your lips with some lip balm prior to applying this. You get amazing pigmented full coverage with the first swipe. It dries matte while feeling comfortable and does not feather or get patchy. It can emphasize some lip lines though. It lasts about 3 hours. They have the same minty scent that the original balm stains had. For photos and reviews of my matte balm collection, keep reading!

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Darling

If someone were to ask me what my favourite and most recommended drug store lip products were, the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains would definitely be it. They are easy dupes for the famous Clinique Chubby Sticks. They are pigmented, nonsticky, glide well and adhere to the lips to provide a sheen and stain. They are long-lasting, and the crayon like shape means you don't have the hassle of requiring lip liners. They twist up so you don't need to sharpen them either. They also apply evenly. They have a minty smell that is non offensive, I actually like it. I had problems with the Bobbi Brown Creamy Lip Colours that had a similar smell - they made my lips flake. But not with these Revlon babies - they are perfect! I picked up a few (perhaps an understatement) of these lippies over the last few months, and here is a post on my entire collection of the original Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains!

Revlon Kissable Balm Stain Collection Reviews, Swatches (Pic Heavy!)

I've recently been away so this week's makeup favourites have been none other than the convenient palettes I took with me, which is a bit of a cheat really. The MAC Eye Shadow x15 Warm Neutral Palette has been exceptional at providing the essential golds and bronzes I needed for my holiday in the Pacific, with the inclusion of matte and shimmer finishes in the 15 different eyeshadows to create varied makeup looks. These shadows were placed on a yellow toned beige base in the form of MAC Soft Ochre Paint Pot which has been my go-to eyeshadow base for years! Eyes were lined with MAC Avenue Fluidline for a glimmery black. Cheeks were free to choose their blush of the day with the 6-pack NARS One Night Stand Blush Palette. To complement any (and I really say ANY) of the possible looks, Revlon Cherish Kissable Balm Stain was the week favourite for its understated but the ultimate girly warm-toned pink.

So that's the edit for the week, what about yourself, care to share any of your favourite stash finds this week?

Thanks for reading!

How to Look Good in Holiday Photos - 7 Beauty Tips!

What's In My Purse Today?

I decided to be spontaneous and write about the products that my subconscious decided were necessary to maintain temporary or permanent? residence in my purse this week. Turning it inside out, I found the following cheeky bits and bobs:

MAC Keep It Casual Lip & Cheek Colour
Once upon a time, MAC released this beauty that doubles up as a cheek and lip stain. With fingertips, I use this on my lips. It's a medium to dark pinky red in a cream finish that's not too dark but still with enough vamp to make it autumn chic. Wonderfully simple to apply, it's great for on the go.

What's in My Purse Today?

Here's a quick makeup look I wore last weekend on a trip to Birmingham. I'm a big fan of the Revlon Kissable Balm Lip Stains as they are decently pigmented, quick to apply, feel great on the lips, long-lasting, don't melt in the heat, don't irritate my lips as some higher end lipstick pencils do - Bobbi Brown I'm looking at you! I own quite a few of these lip stains and I felt like wearing red that day.

Face base With MAC mineralize concealer, and MAC Finishing powder. Neutral eyes with Benefit Hoola Bronzer for contour and Sleek Makeup highlighter on eye lids. Benefit Hoola bronzer to contour cheeks, MAC Instant Chic blush and MAC Pearl Cream colour base to highlight. On lips, I used Revlon Kissable Balm Lip Stain in Romantic blotted with tissues for a more matte finish.

What do you think? ♥

Revlon Pink in the Afternoon Lipstick

Here is a new favourite - Revlon Pink in the Afternoon lipstick. Its a mid-tone yellow pink that brightens the face and makes teeth look whiter too! (but I don't have a smiling picture to prove that - haha). The finish is awesome, very creamy, glides very well and long-lasting. You should definitely try it. I love it!

I believe you can purchase this at your local drugstore or the Revlon website.

Revlon Pink in the Afternoon Lipstick

If my memory hasn't failed me, I don't think I've written a single post about the makeup I bring with me for everyday use, so why not write one now? Some of the products featured I have written reviews for before, and I will link them on their product names so you can read them too.

This is my makeup bag. I bought it from the Department Store of the Gaisano Mall in Davao City, Philippines (my hometown). It looks pretty small from the outside, but it can surprisingly fit a lot of makeup!

It has this pocket with the mesh and mirror (not pictured), which you can open fully.

This is where I store my brushes and the pencil type products, as well as my small Bobbi Brown Corrector in Light Peach.

It also has another pocket which doesn't open fully - ideal for a lot of other things which may fall out. This is where I put the rest of the makeup.

Now for the contents:
